I’m one of those left-brained, logical types of people without a creative bone in her body. Thanks to ideas from Tom Kuhlmann of the The Rapid eLearning Blog, I look to various sources for design inspiration for my elearning courses and presentations.
One of the things Tom suggests is browsing web pages in order to get a feel for web designers’ use of color, font, and design elements. If you take the time to look, there is inspiration everywhere. Try Googling terms such as “design inspiration” or “graphic design inspiration”.
You can also try online journals and newspapers for multimedia projects and video clips – these can be a great source of inspiration.
Three of my favorite sites:
www.inspiredm.com
http://elearningexamples.com/
http://www.smashingmagazine.com/
After doing this for a while, you may start to notice that you begin developing an eye for the utilization of graphic design in commercials, billboards, magazines, etc…
Here are some examples of what I’ve done with MS PowerPoint 2007– nothing fancy but you’ll get the idea:

http://www.de-saint-gall.com
http://blog.cocoia.com/
Today’s Challenge:
Consider a website you find aesthetically pleasing. What about it catches your eye? How can you incorporate those features you find interesting or appealing into a design element for your elearning course?

Nice job on the PowerPoint designs. I like the CNN inspired template.
Good job! Well written!!
